Some of you may have heard the name “The Masters” floated around in conversation or have seen their wildly popular logo (a yellow United States with a red golf flag planted in position of where Georgia would be on a map) or you know exactly what it is and want me to get on with it.
Before we dive into what the lottery is, I want to clarify for those who don’t know what The Masters is and what significance it has to the golf world and for those of you that do know scurry down a paragraph. The Masters is a specific golf tournament held at August National in Augusta, Georgia and in most people’s eyes, including my own, is the crown jewel of the golf world. This tournament is one of four majors that are held every year and players have to qualify to play. What makes this tournament so special outside of it being one of the majors of the year, is its pure beauty, rich history, and highest level of privacy and prestige. I suggest anyone and everyone to tune in and watch for yourself the first week of April or if you are lucky enough (wink wink) to win the lottery and be there in person!
The Masters is aired on TV and online but that is definitely not for everyone, some of us want to be there in person to watch the action. So there is one problem with that.. You can’t just ‘buy’ tickets to go attend The Masters. Yes yes I know for the trolls out there sometimes the tickets show up on a third party site like Ticketmaster but there is a good chance The Masters will void those tickets and you will be out $1,000's. If you don’t want to run that risk and or spend that kind of cash to attend a golf tournament, you are in the same boat as the rest of us which is joining the raffle system every year to try and win tickets! However, it is ridiculously difficult to win unless you submit your lottery form with: a 4 leaf clover, 15 rabbit feet, and 2 horseshoes ... then you might have a chance. To put it in perspective, according to bookies.com (sounds reliable) around 2 million people put in for the raffle every year and you have a 0.55% chance to win a single day ticket, which is obviously horrible odds but that is part of the fun.
How do I join The Masters lottery?
If I have persuaded you thus far to want to spend maybe 5-10 minutes of your time to put your name in the figurative hat that is The Masters lottery, you can head over to this link https://www.masters.com/en_US/tickets. Once you get there, they lay it out to make it as simple as possible. Now there are some caveats to this.
1. Every year the ticket lottery is only open to enter between June 1st and June 20th, so if you are reading this and you haven’t submitted yet, hurry!
2. You are only allowed to have one submission per household, so sorry to everyone wanting to use your little sister's email.
3. When you are going through your application you are given the option to select practice rounds and/or tournament rounds. Personally, I stay away from trying to win practice rounds. I'm superstitious that this affects my chances to win a tournament round ticket, doesn’t seem to matter though since I’ve never won!
4. If you are lucky enough to win The Masters lottery, you still have to PAY for your tickets! Starting in 2026, tickets prices have gone up: practice rounds Monday - Tuesday ($125 per ticket), practice round Wednesday and Par 3 contest ($150 per ticket), and Tournament days Thursday - Sunday ($160 per ticket).
You can thank me later for introducing you to the single most frustrating thing in golf besides 3- putting from inside 10ft. Good luck to everyone that is submitting to the lottery!
