Golf usually rewards those who have patience, control their emotions, handle adversity. That is why Wyndham Clark's U.S. Open victory feels like a complicated story.

Love him or hate him, he is now your U.S. Open champion.

Clark makes it very difficult for the fans to get behind and you could hear it Sunday with a constant flow of boo's throughout the day. He has a reputation for not holding his internal emotions in and creating quite the ruckus verbally or physically. Along with that, he struggles taking accountability for this actions and a lot of golfers/fans struggle to support a player like that.

One of his biggest lash outs happened at last years U.S. Open at Oakmont. After he carded back to back +4 rounds finishing at +8 and missing the cut, he reportedly took his frustration out in the clubhouse locker room, damaging several historic lockers. There are photos showing broken locker doors and torn panels caused by him kicking or punching them. Which prompted Oakmont to suspend Clark from the club and banned him from the property until certain conditions were met. This is just one extreme example of his attitude, there are countless cases of him having outbursts and tantrums that make him unlikable in the fans eye.

But champions aren't won because of reputation. They are won because of performance.

And on Sunday, Wyndham proved he is a top player in the world and you can't ignore that. He played lights out in extremely tough conditions.

The final of any golf tournament let alone a major hits very different. It is a pressure cooker for these guys inside the ropes and they know one small mistake could cost them at the very least a couple hundred thousand dollars and at most the tournament..

He showed composure and confidence many did not expect. His ball striking was top notch, his short game was there when it needed to be and he controlled emotions under the biggest moments.

The same player who has been criticized for his emotions showed resilience required to win arguably one of golfs hardest tests, the U.S. Open. Does this mean he is turning the corner and becoming that player people want to root for? Only time will tell.

But in the mean time, he is now a major champion and there are very few people in this world who can say that so he does deserve his flowers.

Love him or hate him, Wyndham Clark is your U.S. Open champion.
